Research-Based Programs & Methodologies We Use

Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes®

Lindamood-Bell programs focus on developing the underlying sensory-cognitive skills needed for reading comprehension, spelling, and expressive language. Their approach strengthens phonemic awareness, symbol imagery, and concept imagery so students can decode words accurately and build strong mental pictures for understanding what they read. These programs are structured, intensive, and highly individualized.

Orton-Gillingham (OG) Approach

Orton-Gillingham is a gold-standard, multisensory method for teaching students with dyslexia and reading difficulties. It is systematic, explicit, and cumulative, teaching phonics through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic pathways. OG empowers students to understand how English works through structured lessons in decoding, encoding, syllable types, spelling rules, and fluency. Instruction moves at the student’s pace with continuous review.

Jane Schaffer Writing Program

The Jane Schaffer method teaches students to write clear, organized, and well-developed paragraphs and essays. It provides a structured blueprint using color-coded components (topic sentence, concrete detail, commentary, concluding sentence), helping students build analytical writing skills step-by-step. This approach is ideal for struggling writers because it breaks writing into predictable, manageable parts while still encouraging critical thinking.

Executive Functioning (Smart but Scattered – Peg Dawson, Ed.D.)

This executive-functioning framework helps students understand their strengths and challenges across key skills such as planning, prioritizing, organization, working memory, emotional regulation, and task initiation. Using Peg Dawson’s “Smart but Scattered” model, coaching focuses on building practical tools that improve school performance and daily life: customized routines, checklists, time-management systems, study habits, and accountability strategies. Students learn how to manage themselves, not just their homework.

Wilson Reading System®

Wilson is a highly structured, multisensory program designed for older students who struggle with decoding, encoding, and fluency. Based on Orton-Gillingham principles, Wilson follows a 12-step curriculum with explicit instruction in phonics, high-frequency word reading, spelling, and text comprehension. It is proven effective for students with dyslexia and those who have not responded to traditional reading instruction.
